Introducing Kelsey

Meet Kelsey! Not only is she a great friend and cheerleader, but Kelsey Kelley is the owner of a successful stationery business, K.Kelley Designs. Her wedding stationery business started off as a side hustle and quickly turned into a full-time endeavor. Using her calligraphy and creative talents, she has made the most beautiful and whimsical wedding stationery. 

Her whimsical, colorful, tasteful stationery has gotten her recognized by Style Me Pretty, Over the Moon, and other wedding industry businesses. She was also recognized as One of the 7 Stationery Designers You Need to Know by Wedding Sparrow.

Not only is she incredibly talented at her art, but she loves to celebrate her loved ones. As an artist who is not great about celebrating little wins, Kelsey will always show up and celebrate me.. no matter how big or small. 

Five Things & Why:

1. Watercolor pallet
This one is from Jerry’s. I love that it closes and has space for color mixing.

2. Princeton sable hair brushes
These hold water so well and keep their fine tip point the longest.

3. Laser level calligraphy pad
Makes writing in a straight line so easy for envelope calligraphy!

4. Kneaded eraser
I love that it doesn’t shed!

5. IKEA Alex drawers
I wish I could have a room full of these! Great for storage and aesthetics.

Advice Column

Are there any studio habits or routines you’ve developed that you think could be helpful for other artists?

The best habits/routines I’ve done for my business is to utilize a client management tool like Asana. I’ve also implemented a time block for my week and set (somewhat) strict schedules for myself. I’ve assigned creative/design/painting days to MWF and all client facing tasks like client calls, emails, calendar scheduling to Tuesday & Thursday. Those things have completely changed the way I handle my business and my clients. It has also reduced so much stress. Although it may seem counterintuitive for a creative to set a more strict time block for creating, it actually opened me up and allowed myself more freedom.

What advice would you give to creatives who feel hesitant or unsure about reaching out to find a creative community?

You have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain! Having a network around you of other creatives will not only make you feel less alone, but give you a sounding board for your ideas, confidence in your work, and encouragement in hard times. I have learned so much from others around me!
