What is a linocut print?

A linocut is a form of relief printmaking. The artist carves a design into a sheet of linoleum, rolls ink onto the raised (uncarved) areas, and presses the block onto paper to create an image. Each print is made by hand, giving it a unique character and slight variation from others in the same edition.

What is the difference between an "original print" and "reproduction print"?

Reproduction prints are copies made by scanning an original artwork and printing it digitally—these are often mass-produced.

In contrast, every print on this site is an original, created directly from a hand-carved linoleum block. While multiple prints can come from the same block, each one is hand-inked and pressed, so no two are exactly alike. (The only exception: stickers, which are reproduction prints.)

What is the difference between a limited edition and an open edition print?

  • Limited edition means only a specific number of prints will ever be made from a block. Once they’re gone, no more will be printed.
  • Open edition means more prints may be produced over time, possibly in multiple batches or “editions.”

Most of the prints on this site are limited editions.
