Protection

Protection is an original, limited-edition reduction linocut from the From the Garden collection.

Protection explores the instinct to shield those entrusted to our care. Centered on a vigilant Killdeer in its protective warning posture, the print symbolizes both the fierce devotion of motherhood and the broader responsibility we feel toward those we love.

Inspired by a photograph by wildlife photographer and dear friend Ashleigh Newnes, the composition surrounds the bird with poppies, symbols of peace and rest. Though unseen, her chicks remain safely hidden behind her.

More than a reflection on parenthood, Protection speaks to the ways we care for family, friends, and those placed in our lives. While we long to protect them from hardship, true care also means preparing them to face the world with wisdom, resilience, and courage.
