Wood Ducks are one of the few duck species that regularly nest in trees! Females lay their eggs in tree cavities, sometimes more than 50 feet above the ground. After hatching, the fluffy ducklings leap fearlessly from the nest just one day old, bouncing safely on the forest floor before following their mother to water.
